The outdoor sealing end with composite insulator offered by Nexans since 1980 is equipped with a pre-molded elstomeric stress cone and a synthetic housing.
The self supporting tube is made of epoxy resin reinforced with fibre glass and covered by elastomeric (silicone rubber) weather sheds. The tube is terminated at both ends by metallic flanges.
Composite type insulators are a first class alternative to porcelain. Because of their great advantages over conventional ceramic insulating materials, these composite insulators have become established throughout the world for all types of applications.
Advantages:
- Low mass, simplified transport, handling and installation
- No risk of explosion
- Excellent seismic performance
- Small risk of damage during transport and installation as well as in operation
- Excellent performance in case of destruction by bullets (vandalism)
- Excellent pollution performance (new and aged silicone) due to hydrophobic characteristics of silicone rubber
For voltages 60-150 kV IEC60840 standard, for voltages> 150 kV standard 62067
