Description

Application

The cables are used in wind turbines. Among other things the cable connects switchgear in top of the turbine with switchgear in the tower. Notice that the cable has to twist on the free hanging part
 

Construction

Conductor Flexible copper cable
Conductors have to be according to IEC60228 (HD383) “Bare copper fine wire class 5"
Insulation:

Halogenfree insulation compound 
Colour Code: As required

Assembly: Conductor twisted together in layer + polyester tape 
 
Shield: Tinned copper braid, coverage ≥80% 
 
Sheath:

Low Smoke Zero Halogen compound
Colour code: Black Ral 9005
 

 

Conductor identification:

Conductors have to be identified with a color code (as required) or Black identified with printed numbers (with or without Yellow/Green)

Oil resistance

The cable has to be oil resistant. Test according to EN60811-2-1 (based on to IEC60811-2-1)

 

2 times 4 hours at 70°C in oil IRM 902
After 4 hours the cable shall be checked for damage to the isolation. If still ok the test will continue 4 hours more with a final examination of the isolation.

Max tensile strength variation: +/- 40% (HD22.1, table 2, ref no 1.4.2)

Elongation: +/- 40% (HD22.1, table 2, ref no 1.4.3)

Smoke density

The cable has to have low emission of smoke. Smoke visibility according to EN50268 (based on IEC61034)
Level for smoke visibility is >60%

Halogen free - Low emission of corrosive gases (acidic gases)

The cable has to be halogen free, have low emission of corrosive gases and acid.

Halogen free – without Chlorine, Fluorine and Bromine

Corrosive gases and acid content according to HD22.13 and EN50267-1 and EN50267-2 (based on IEC60754)

Torsion

Cable has to resist 2000 Twist cycles [+/- 150°/m] at any temperature within the temperature range.

(Info.: The turbines twist the cable +/-4 turns on 10 m cable)
