Applications
Subsea umbilicals provide electric/optic signalling and power for remotely operating subsea installations from offshore platforms or onshore facilities.
The umbilicals are tailored for each specific application either according to customer specification or on basis of input of operational requirements.
Design
- Signal - electrical: Pairs or quads can be included for electrical signalling.
- Signal - optical: A selection of max 48 SM/MM optical fibres protected by a laserwelded steel tube. Up to 4 steel tubes can be integrated in one FO uni. Several FO units can be integrated in one umbilical.
- Power supply: A multiplum of power conductors of varying size from 0.82 to 70mm2 is included to accomdate power tranfer to motors and intrumentation. The voltage rating can be up to 24kV.
- Sheath: Individual sheaths are normally applied over each bundle of signal and power elements in order to ease termination. A polyetylene sheath is applied over the bundels.
- Armouring: 2 or more layers of galvanized high strength steels wires make up to amour. The armour is designed to make the cable free of torsion.
- Outer protection: A layer of polyetylene sheath or yarn serving is applied over the armouring to protect the steel wires against corrosion attacks.
